The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Wednesday directed district managers to prepare to shut down train stations in the event that workers down tools.
The stations to be closed are Abuja-Kaduna, Lagos-Ibadan, and Warri-Itakpe routes
The Nigerian Union of Railway Workers (NUR) had on November 12 said it would embark on a 3-day warning strike from Thursday, November 18.
Managing Director of NRC, Engr. Fidet Okhiria, in an internal memo issued on Tuesday, directed all district managers and relevant officers to protect railway assets in the event the strike goes ahead.
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi had on November 13 invited the labour unions, but it ended in a deadlock.
However, Okrikha said if no truce is reached, train service should be closed with effect from Wednesday night.
