The North has warned against the continued demonization, attacks and killings of northerners in southern parts of Nigeria.
The warning was contained in a communique issued after a two-day interactive session convened by the Northern Peoples Summit which ended on Thursday in Kaduna.
The communique was presented on Friday by Prof. Doknan Danjuma Sheni, Chairman of the Communiqué Drafting Committee, to newsmen in Arewa House, Kaduna.
Sheni said the north has demanded that the federal and state governments must take strong measures to safeguard northerners living in southern part of Nigeria, further calling on the governments to arrest and prosecute persons who are involved in these dastardly acts.
The communique also drew the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari, northern governors and legislators that under their watch, “the North has sunk lower in all indices of human existence.”
The summit not only supports restructuring but said now is the time to engage in it, believing that it is vital for the survival of the country.
They also kicked against rotation of presidency, saying the North will not be stampeded or blackmailed into taking major decisions around rotating the Presidency.
Eighteen socio-political and economic groups in the north and other representatives of northern communities in south east and south west attended the summit, while their representatives signed the communique.
