Some youths have stormed Plateau State House of Assembly over the recent impeachment of its speaker.
Abok Ayuba Nuhu was on October 29 impeached by eight lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and replaced by the member representing Pengana constituency of Bassa local government area Sanda Yakubu.
Nuhu was accused of corruption, abuse of office, financial misappropriation, among other allegations, by a group under the aegis of Youths Rights Against Corruption (YRAC). But Ayuba denied the allegations and argued that his impeachment was illegal as the number of those that impeached him was not up to 2/3 as required by the constitution.
The impeachment proceeding was presided by Deputy Speaker Saleh Yipmong, and was operated under the heavy presence of security agents, who prevented the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from entering the assembly complex.
This forced the embattled speaker to hold a parallel session with members loyal to him at a community hall in Zawan community of Bassa local government area.
The impeachment has sparked a lot of resistance from party members and sympathizers loyal to the embattled Speaker.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that the youths began to converge at the house as early as 4 am on Monday. And despite security presence around the assembly complex, angry youths trooped to the house to protest the removal of the former speaker.
