The five governors in Nigeria’s south eastern state have agreed to begin a joint security patrol in December 2022.
They reached the decision in a meeting attended by Governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia); Dave Umahi of Ebonyi; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu; Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim and Placid Njoku of Imo State, in Enugu yesterday.
The governors raised the alarm that kidnappings and wanton killings in the zone was on the increase, and therefore, called on the Federal Government to provide security in the area, bearing in mind that elections were at hand.
They said the patrol would be on a 24-hour basis to be carried out on all the major highways within the South East, especially during the Christmas season to curb the escalated insecurity in the zone.
According to the governors, a political solution was the way of out in dealing with the case of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s issue.
The governors countered the Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Obi’s statement in Kaduna that the southeast governors formed the Eastern Security Network, ESN, saying Ebubeagu and Forest Guards were the organisations they formed but not the ESN.
