South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe has been elected the new President of Confederation of African Football (CAF).
He was confirmed during the organisation’s 43rd Ordinary General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco on Friday.
Motsepe was backed by FIFA Chief Gianni Infantino as replacement for outgoing Ahmad Ahmad. He was elected unopposed.
Motsepe is Africa’s ninth richest person..He owns the South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns,
Ahmad’s three-year reign promised much but was ultimately dappled by accusations of nepotism, corruption and embezzlement.
He was suspended in November after being found guilty of breaching four separate articles of Fifa’s ethics code and banned from all football-related activity for five years
