Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof Charles Soludo, has clinched the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)’s ticket for the Anambra governorship election slated for November 6.
Soludo beat his closest rival, Okwudili Ezenwankwo, representing Orumba North and South Federal constituency with 740 against 41 votes to pick the ticket.
Soludo was earlier suspended by the Chief Jude Okeke-led National Working Committee of the party for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities.
The Ag. National Publicity Secretary of the Chief Okeke-led faction, Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, had told journalists in Abuja that the decision to suspend Soludo was taken Tuesday night at the meeting of the party.
However, Soludo participated in party’s primary which took place at Prof Dora Akunyili Women’s development Center in Awka amid heavy security.
In the results announced by National Vice Chairman of the party in the Southwest, Deacon Samson Olalere, Soludo defied all odds to beat all other aspirants in the race.
Our correspondent reports that 812 delegates were accredited by the party from the 326 wards in the 21 local government areas.
Reacting to the outcome of the primary, Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano, congratulated Soludo for emerging victorious during the exercise.
The governor who boasted that APGA would win the November 6 governorship election, adding that Soludo’s emergence was a sign that the party remains a united family.
