Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has said a US based tennis player, Tania Okpala, is now in the custody of the state government.
The governor revealed this in his official social media handles Sunday evening.
He said, “Tania Okpala (fmrTennis champion) is now in the custody of the Anambra State Government. She was with the Commissioner for Women Affairs when my wife spoke with her on the phone.”
Mr Soludo said he has directed the immediate rehabilitation and reintegration of Ms. Okpala with her family.
“My government will ensure her rehabilitation and fruitful reunion with her daughter and family.”
Tbis newspaper recalls that Ms. Okpala was captured in a viral video on social media by a good spirited member of the public on the streets.
She looked distressed and unstable in the said video, prompting the quick response by the Anambra State Government to rehabilitate and reunite her with her family.
The lady, who represented Nigeria in tennis during the 1990s, is a half-cast with a mother from Belarus and a father of Igbo extraction.
