Bandits have killed three soldiers while responding to an attack in Kekun Waje, Bungudu local government area of Zamfara state, Tuesday evening.
Speaking to BBC Hausa and monitored by 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE, an anonymous source said the soldiers affected were those stationed in Kekun Waje.
“The soldiers are there to protect the people of Yar Katsina, Kekun Waje, Auki, Fanda Haki, Gidan Tsaro, Hayin Gulbin Kadusa. They were notified of a bandits group coming towards their area on over 50 motorcycles. At that moment, they were not sure where the bandits were going to attack.”
“The soldiers mobilized and went after the bandits but they followed behind Kekun Waje and left some bandits there. While the soldiers were trailing them, those stationed outside Kekun Waje attacked the soldiers’ van and killed the driver.”
He said only three soldiers were killed by the bandits during the attack contrary to social media reports that five were killed.
The source, who is from Kekun Waje, said the attack has thrown the whole area into confusion.
The soldiers were said to be from the 1 Brigade in Gusau, Zamfara state.
Efforts to reach the brigade spokesperson proved abortive.
