Scores of soldiers are still missing four days after Boko Haram terrorists invaded the Forward Operating Base, Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Quoting sources, Daily Trust reports that the death toll on the side of the military was rising from the attack around 4pm on Saturday at area.
The sources further revealed that “more bodies are being recovered, some died on their way to hospital in Maiduguri, while many soldiers and vigilantes are unaccounted for, missing in action (MIA).
“It’s too early to tell how many people we have been lost because we are still counting. I cannot tell you the exact number of the soldiers and vigilantes or the identity of the officers killed, but we have recovered over 12 dead bodies.”
Another impeccable security source said: “The base is responsible for securing southern Damboa, especially curtailing the activities of Boko Haram/ISWAP from Yobe to Chibok and Gwoza axis.
“They were completely dislodged, and their equipment carted away and some damaged. Reinforcement from the main 25TF Brigade along with CJTF were sent from Damboa but were blocked by IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) planted by the terrorists.”
The Defence Headquarters, on Wednesday, said contrary to reports, Boko haram suffered more casualties in the encounter with the Boko Haram bandits in Sabon Gari Area in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. The military said it killed 34 insurgents were killed.
The media on Tuesday reported that the insurgents ambushed the Forward Operating Base, in Sabon Gari, killing scores of soldiers and vigilantes as well as wounding others.
