Nigerian soldiers deployed to keep peace have reportedly killed seven women and wounded 11 others crisis ridden Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The women were said to be protest what they termed delayed response by the military to calm communal strife between Bachama and Chobo communities of the LGA, which broke out on Sunday.
The women, who held leaves, reportedly blocked the movement of troops into the area, saying the soldiers were coming late to respond to the clash.
The women also accused the soldiers of boss in their interventions in favour of the Chobo community.
Locals said during the confrontation, the soldiers allegedly shot into the crowd, killing four women on the spoton the spot, while three others died in the hospital.
Eleven soldiers were wounded in the fracas and are currently receiving treatment.
The District Head of Gyawana, a community in Lamurde LGA, Chief Agoso Bamaiyi, said “they (women) came out peacefully, carrying leaves, begging for security, instead, they were met with live gunfire.
“The wounded were rushed to Numan General Hospital, where medical officials say some remain in critical condition,”
