Political parties in Sokoto State have expressed worry with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s failure to name the polling units where the supplementary elections would take place on Saturday.
Stakeholders who attended the meeting convened by the INEC at its Collation Centre on Thursday are questioning the level of preparedness of the commission to conduct the election.
The state’s chairman of APC, Alhaji Isa Achida said the commission ought to have notified them about the number of polling units marked for the rerun. “Because this will guide our preparation for the election,” he said.
“I know the PDP candidate was leading with 2,000 votes and the total numbers of cancellation is over 4,000 while in Gudu-Tangaza federal constituency, our candidate was leading with 6,000 votes and the number of cancellation was only 4,000, yet the election was declared inconclusive,” he wondered.
The former governorship candidate of the Because Of Our Tomorrow party (BOOT) wondered if the INEC could conduct the election on scheduled despite some of the noticeable challenges.
Responding, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Retired Maj Gen Modibbo Alkali assured them that the election would hold as scheduled.
According to him, the number of polling units marked for the election would be released to them later in the day, because another team was coming with the details of the election today.
He said security agencies in the state has assured them of the provision of adequate security during the election.
