The Sokoto State Urban and Regional Planning Board has removed campaign posters and billboards that were illegally erected in the state.
Among the billboards removed were those of the candidates of ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on the operation on Monday, the Special Adviser in charge of the agency, Sidi Aliyu Lamido, said the exercise was successful as it involved representatives of political parties in the state.
Describing it as necessary, he said it meant to restore the beauty of the state’s metropolis.
“Last year, precisely on the 25th of August, we had a meeting with all the political parties on the need to abide by our regulations.
“We told them what they need to do before posting their posters as well as where not to erect their billboards. And we all agreed to work together in the interest of the state.
“But some of them violated the rules, they placed their posters and billboards in some restricted areas while some placed their posters without our permission.
“We removed all these posters and billboards including those of the candidates of PDP to show you that we are not partisan,” he said.
He called on political parties to abide by the rules and regulations of the agency.
