A second year National Diploma (ND) student of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto, Nafeesat Yekini, has reportedly stabbed her roommate, Zainab Bisola Owoade to death during an argument in the hostel.
An eyewitness said after Owoade, a student of the Department of Public Administration, was stabbed with a knife by Yekini, the duo continued to fight until she (Owoade) slumped after losing too much blood.
“She was later rushed to a nearby hospital, and was declared death on arrival at the hospital,” the eyewitness said.
She said the matter was reported to the Police, and Yekini was arrested.
She said both Yekini and Owoade were Muslims and blossomed friends. They both hailed from Krishi in Oyo State.
Protests by the students ensued in the school on the Wednesday of the incident, when Yekini was released by the Police after Owoade had been buried.
A member of the school’s chapter of Federation of Oyo Students Union, Aliu Kareem, said they suspected cover-up from the police authorities, as they buried the deceased without autopsy.
“There is an attempt to change the narratives of what happened and that is what we are against,” he said.
He said the cause of the fight between the deceased and Yekini was still known.
The spokesperson of Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Sanusi, confirmed the incident. The details about the incident were yet to be unraveled.
The authorities of the school have announced the closure of the school following the protest by the students.
