A member of the House of Representatives, Abdullahi Salame, on Wednesday narrowly escaped mob action during a meeting of stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto.
This was the first time, the lawmaker representing Illela-Gwadabawa federal constituency was attending a meeting at the Secretariat of the party since the recent states’ congresses.
The lawmaker and other members of the party in the state are currently challenging the outcome of the congresses in the court.
During the meeting, the delegates election committee sent to the state briefed leaders and stakeholders of the party on their mission in the state, assuring that, they would ensure none of the members of the party was disenfranchised during the election.
The former deputy Governor of Borno state, Alhaji Abubakar Ali Jatau, is the chairman of the committee, while the ex-deputy Governor of Taraba state, Armaya’u Abubakar is the chairman of the Election Appeal panel.
Shortly after their remarks, Salame alleged that delegates from the three local government areas have already emerged even before the committees were inaugurated.
This claim was disputed by the chairman of the appwal panel who said the election materials did not arrive in the state until this morning.
“So there woukd never be an election without these materials,” he said.
When the meeting was over some hoodlums made attempt to beat the lawmaker but were prevailed upon by the party chairman in the state, Isa Sadiq Achida and some security operatives.
Achida said every member of the party is important to them.
“We don’t want to lose a single member. Therefore we must unite and concentrate on the success of the party in the forthcoming election,” Achida said.
