A total of 118,000 were newly enrolled in routine immunization in Sokoto state.
This was disclosed by the Operation Coordinator of New Incentives/All Babies Are Equal, a supportive partner to Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Ibrahim Rabi’u during the award given ceremony for the best performing local government areas in routine immunization on Saturday.
Mr Rabiu said this success was achieved because of the financial incentives given to nursing mothers.
He said N346 million was disbursed so far in 18 out of the 23 local government areas, adding that, they have encouraged more than 1.5 million vaccination in the state.
The Executive Secretary, Sokoto State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Larai Tambuwal encouraged New Incentives to expand their intervention to areas that were hard to reach due to poor terrain and insecurity.
Dr Tambuwal noted that, the intervention was a preventive factor to infant morbidity and mortality in the state.
Five local government areas received award over their performance in 2023 routine immunization in Sokoto state.
The areas include Illela which received best enrolment Award; Binji local government (Panta Retention Award) and Tambuwal which won best immunization activities Award
Gwadabawa local government area won best in vaccine supply award and Sokoto-North local government area, best in documentation award.
The awarded local government areas also received a cheque of N150,000 each.
