The Sokoto Police Command has arrested one Farida Usman of Gidan Madi in Tangaza local government area of Sokoto state for allegedly kidnapping a 3-year old son of her neighbour.
Farida a married woman, was said to have demanded for N2million ransom.
The spokesperson of the Police, Sanusi Abubakar while parading the suspect on Friday said she was arrested when she came to pick up the two million naira ransom she demanded from the father of the child.
He said the suspect revealed that she learnt the act of kidnapping through listening to radio programmes where stories of how people were being kidnapped was narrated.
Mr. Abubakar also revealed that the suspect kept the kidnapped victim in the custody of her cousin on the guise that the victim was the child of her co-wife who travelled to a village to get medicine for an undisclosed ailment.
“The suspect later used a male magic voice on her mobile phone to inform the father of the child she was in custody of his missing child and demanded the same of two million Naira as a ransom.
“She threatened to kill the child if the parents fail to pay the money,” he said
“It was in the process of picking the two million naira ransom that the team of police detectives arrested her,” he said
According to Abubakar, the suspect was transfered to the Sokoto state police headquarters for further investigation, saying she would be arraigned as soon as the investigation was completed.
