Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto state has vowed to recover all the refuse dump sites that were converted to business premises in the state.
The governor made the promised at the popular Kangiwa square where 4-year old refuse was being evacuated by the taskforce constituted by the state government.
Aliyu was shocked to find out that places meant for dumping refuse were turned into shops and stands, forcing residents to be dumping refuse inside the race course.
“We will not condone such flagrant violation of our environmental law and gross distortion of our master plan,” he said.
Earlier, a member of the taskforce on refuse evacuation, Muhammadu Toro, told the governor that 200 trucks load of refuse already left the site.
He stated that, they made 1,580 trips from across the state’s metropolis since the commencement of the exercise in June, 12.
