Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto state has shared N280 million to Islamic clerics for Sallah rams.
He said 280 people would benefit from the gesture with each expected to receive N100,000.
The state has also commenced the payment of N50,000 as a monthly stipend for Tsangaya school teachers, in addition of providing maintenance fees to Juma’at mosques across the state.
Some mosques receive N500,000 each, while others receive between N300,000 and N200,000 depending on their locations and sizes.
The governor also distributed brand new buses to religious groups in the state to ease their religious activities.
Flagging off the distribution of the vehicles, the former Governor of Zamfara state and now Senator, Abdulaziz Yari commended the Sokoto state government for the gestures.
“This is the least one should expect from a true leader who always have his people at heart,” Yari said.
Earlier, Governor Aliyu said the gestures were part of his government efforts to support religious activities in the state.
