The Presidency has challenged the People Democratic Party (PDP) to publish evidence of rights abuse against the military in the war against terrorists, instead of levying grave accusations without proves.
The Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said this in a statement.
The PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, had said that the nomination of immediate past Service Chiefs as non-career ambassadors was a ploy by the Presidency to shield the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-General Tukur Buratai and other Ex-service chiefs from prosecution against alleged human right abuse by the military under their watch. The party urged the National Assembly to rejet their nomination.
But Shehu in a statement on Sunday said we live in an evidence-based society, hence the opposition party should publish evidence of the alleged right abuse.
“PDP’s attacks on the ambassadorial nominations should be seen in the context of the opposition party’s track record as a university of liars, whose modus operandi is to propagate lies,” he said.
But Shehu said the nomination of the former top military brass is a reward for their hard work and exceptional service to Nigeria.
“The President is rewarding hard work and exceptional sacrifice by a set of military leaders who gave their best to the nation and will be remembered, sooner than later, for their contributions to the security and survival of Nigeria as one nation,” Shehu said
“They should be allowed to move to the next level. This is so that their examples will help to inspire others if given the opportunity to serve and this transition is normal in decent democratic societies”.
