At least seven people were killed in Osun State as clashes erupted between the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.
A former chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, Mr. Aderemi Abbas, and six others were confirmed killed on Monday.
The crisis was triggered by a contentious Court of Appeal ruling allegedly reinstating APC-elected local government chairmen and councillors.
On Sunday, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke raised an alarm alleging a conspiracy led by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and some security agency heads to enforce the ruling.
Mr Adeleke urged the public to hold Mr Oyetola and the state’s security chiefs accountable for any ensuing violence.
It was a free-for-all as supporters of the APC and PDP unleashed mayhem on local government secretariats across the state, on Monday, leaving in its wake deaths and injured persons.
In a viral video, Mr Abbas, who was elected as chairman in the 2018 election, was seen lying in his pool of blood with an open wound on his head.
