Seven members of a family have all died after eating poisonous food In Runjin Barmo village, Kajiji District in Shagari local government of Sokoto state.
The victims were identified as Malam Abubakar, his wife, Aishat and their five children.
They were said to have died after eating Dambu which was made from a cassava flour.
Surprisingly, the other five families who were living in the same compound with them and also ate the same food were still alive.
The Village Head of the area, Muhammadu Modi, narrated the incident to the Commissioner for Health, Asabe Balarabe, who led a delegation to the area.
According to him, the incident occurred last Wednesday, and the exact cause of their death was yet to be confirmed.
“Interestingly, the same cassava was used in four other households in the village, but no illnesses were reported in those homes,” he said.
Modi Magaji, on behalf of the community, expressed gratitude to the state governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, for his concern.
The Commissioner, stated that they visited the village to assess the situation and report to the state government for appropriate action.
She mentioned that the ministry would take samples from a teenager who survived after consuming the suspected cassava meal.
