Former Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa and his followers have joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Marafa’s joining of the ADC was to a closed door caucus meeting of the Marafa political movement held in Kaduna State.
The group’s secretary, Aminu A. Jelani, said the decision followed “extensive consultations and review of prevailing political realities.
“The caucus unanimously resolved to formally adopt the ADC as the political platform of the Marafa political movement,” Jelani said, adding that the movement was ratified through a vote by members during the meeting.
Jelani said “all members, supporters, coordinators, and stakeholders… are hereby directed to immediately commence registration with the ADC and intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts in all wards, local governments, and senatorial districts,” he said.
He said the ADC leadership formally invited Marafa and his supporters. A former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar reportedly facilitated engagements between both sides.
The group said it would work with the ADC “in good faith, sincerity, and openness,” and appealed to the party leadership to ensure inclusiveness and cooperation.
“The Marafa Support Groups remain resolute in their commitment to the promotion of good governance, justice, accountability, and people oriented leadership,” the statement said, adding that the movement was entering “a new phase of strategic political engagement.”
