The Senate has mandated its committee on power to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Power for the completion of the Abadigba-Egume Power Project, in Dekina Local Government of Kogi State.
The development followed a motion by Senator Jibrin Isah (APC, Kogi East).
Leading the debate, the senator drew attention to how the project which was initiated by the federal government in 2007 to light up Kogi East Senatorial District was abandoned.
He explained that the effort led to the installation of various equipment, including three giant power plants and two transformers, in readiness for connection with Geregu Power Station at Ajaokuta.
He said the project, which is at 70% completion stage was abandoned leading to the destruction of some of the connecting wires and cables due to bush burning and vandalism.
