The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Major General Farouk Yahaya for appointment as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The confirmation of Yahaya followed the presentation and consideration of the report of the Joint Senate Committee on Defence and Army at plenary.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Aliyu Wamakko presented the report.
President Muhammadu Buhari on May 27 appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya the new Chief of Army Staff, following the death of Lt’-General Ibrahim Attahiru in a plane crash in Kaduna.
General Yahaya, a member of 37 Regular Courses of the Nigerian Defence Academy has been serving as COAS in acting capacity.
Buhari on June 1 wrote the Senate for confirmation of General Yahya as a substantive COAS, in accordance with the constitution
