The Senate on Tuesday approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to the National Assembly to increase the 2026 appropriation bill by N9 trillion.
The request was contained in a letter, dated March 30 and addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read during plenary on Tuesday.
The approval followed the presentation and consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Appropriations in the Committee of Supplies during Tuesday’s plenary.
The report was presented by the Chairman of the committee, Sen. Solomon Olamilekan (APC-Ogun).
Mr Tinubu said the request was aimed at strengthening fiscal transparency and ensuring effective implementation of priority national programmes.
“Pursuant to the powers vested in me by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), and in furtherance of orderly budget execution, fiscal transparency, and effective implementation of priority national programmes, I hereby transmit proposed adjustments to the 2026 appropriation bill for the consideration of the senate,” the letter read.
The president said the adjustments are intended to achieve three objectives.
