A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Chairman, Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar, to appear before the Senate over alleged assault on a security guard, Clement Sagwak.
Umar reportedly assaulted the guard for directing him to park his vehicle properly and was summoned by the Senate following public outcry the incident generated.
He then challenged the powers of the Senate to investigate him over the incident.
In his ruling on Tuesday, however, Justice Inyang Ekwo said the order was to allow Umar to face his probe over alleged public misconduct.
The judge held that Umar is answerable to the Senate on moral standards and conduct as a public officer administering the law.
Justice Ekwo stated that Umar’s suit seeking to stop his probe by the Senate lacked merit and was consequently dismissed.
