Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) failed to safe the embattled national chairman Uche Secondus from imminent sack as the Monday meeting over the matter was deadlocked.
Another meeting by the governors with the party’s elders, National Assembly members, representatives from all the zones and other stakeholders, has been scheduled for Tuesday.
The party’s 13 governors met at the Akwa Ibom Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja over the raging crisis in the party.
The governors include Amniu Tambuwal (Sokoto); Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa); Duoye Diri (Bayelsa); Ifeanyi Okowa Delta); Nysom Wike(Rivers) and Darius Ishaku (Taraba).
Others are Seyi Makinde (Oyo); Godwin Obaseki (Edo); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu); Bala Mohammed (Bauchi); and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
It was learnt that the governors were divided and could not agree on whether or not, Secondus should resign his position before the party’s national convention in November.
The anti-Secondus “must go” group led by Wike was said to have been vehement that the national chairman must step down but the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal-led pro-Secondus group stood their ground that he must stay.
The meeting was said to have been tensed as the two groups disagreed over the matter.
Tambuwal, who is the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, told journalists that an expanded meeting on the matter would hold on Tuesday.
He said, “We discussed extensively on matters of the moment concerning our party. And we have collectively resolved to continue to work together in unity. This meeting will be continuing tomorrow with other stakeholders.
“Very soon, Nigerians and indeed all of you will hear our solution but we are working towards resolving all issues, as a family and by the grace of God, we are going to achieve that.”
He however he did not respond to the questions on whether Secondus would remain or not.
