Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Obantoko Division, Alimeke Ignatius, has been injured on his head during a bloody clash between students of Egba Comprehensive High School and Asero High School in Asero, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The students also blocked the main road and hauled stones and other dangerous objects at each other, thereby causing tension among residents of the area.
Police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the DPO led some policemen from Obantoko police station to calm the situation.
He said the police team was attacked by the rampaging students, who hauled stones at the operatives, which hit the DPO on the head.
Oyeyemi said the DPO sustained a grievous injury on his head and was rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
“We cannot arrest the students because they are minors. We can only detain and counsel them, after which they will be released,” he said.
