The debate on the emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu on Rivers state has sparked shouting match in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the house got rowdy after the lawmakers took their seats for the plenary to begin.
Spokesperson of the Green Chamber, Akin Rotimi, revealed that Tinubu had consulted the National Assembly before imposing the order.
Rotimi said Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu; Senate Leader Michael Bamidele, House Leader Julius Ihonvbere, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu met before the emergency rule announcement.
He said the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun; Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), Adeola Ajayi, and his National Intelligence Agency (NIA) counterpart, Mohammed Mohammed, were also part of the meeting.
Rotimi said Tinubu officially wrote to seek the Green Chamber’s approval on the state of emergency in Rivers State in line with section 305 of the constitution, adding that the letter would be transmitted to the green chamber for Wednesday plenary for further legislative action.
