Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has said the notice of impeachment against him and his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu, by the state House of Assembly was a ‘love letter’.
Fubara stayed this as a Special Guest at the finals of the 2026 Port Harcourt Polo Tournament held in the state capital on Saturday.
He said he would not be part of any action capable of undermining peace and safety in the state. directly or indirectly,
According to the governor, who was speaking for the first time since the impeachment saga broke out, said the protection of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of his administration.
Fubara said he remains the governor of Rivers State and is committed to delivering on the promises made to the people of the State.
He said he was delighted that the week-long 2026 Port Harcourt Polo Tournament ended peacefully , adding that the peaceful atmosphere was a clear evidence that State is safe for residents, visitors and investors.
“It is really unfortunate that each time you are having your tournament, there is always one problem. In 2024, you came to me and made some promises, but that January was hell. In 2025, you didn’t bother to come to me. This 2026, which I thought would be the finest, just landed me a love letter.
“What is important is that I am still the Governor of Rivers State, and we will continue to do what we have promised the Rivers people,” he said.
