A church stampede in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital has left many dead and dozens others injured.
The incident happened just before the commencement of a programme organised by a new generation church known as ‘Kings Assembl’ located in the GRA axis of the metropolis.
The programme, it was learnt, was at the Polo Club in the Rivers State capital to accommodate the usual large congregation.
Witnesses said the crowd overstretched the venue as the church had invited members of the public to come and receive gift items and food for its fourth anniversary.
A security officer said the crowd which started trooping in at about 6:30am on Saturday morning pushed open a small gate to gain entrance leading to a stampede.
There was no immediate statement from the Rivers police command over the incident.
