The People of Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto state were shocked to hear that one of their kinsmen, Musa Abubakar who relocated to Taraba state with his family because of banditry, had converted to Christianity.

It was said that Abubakar and his wives were lured into Christianity in Taraba where they went to find succour because of the security situation in their hometown.

However, one of the three wives was said to had refused to renounce her faith, instead, she abandoned the marriage and ran back to Sokoto.

The action of Abubakar was said to have generated criticisms even within his family and as such some political and community leaders in the state decided to intervene.

It was said that Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sokoto North— APC), has formed a three member committee to meet Aliyu and know his reason of renouncing his faith which it did.

During their meeting , Abubakar was said to had shared his grievances which prompted him to convert to Christianity.

Abubakar hinged his decision on banditry which rendered him jobless and frustrated him into leaving his birth place to Taraba state.

Providing more insight into their meeting, the Secretary of the committee, Malam Bashir Gidan Kanawa said Abubakar was lacking religious knowledge and was rendered jobless by banditry.

“So he became frustrated and depressed and decided to relocate to Taraba where he was lured into Christianity with financial support.

Narrating his ordeal, Abubakar said he had converted to Christianity some months ago but had now reverted to Islam due to the intervention of his relatives, community and religious leaders.

“I am now back to my religion of Islam with all my family. I regretted my actions and the inconveniences it might had caused my relatives and leaders. I am back to Sokoto. I will start doing business here,” he said

He, however, promised that he and his wives would dedicate their lives to Islam.

Also speaking, his elder brother, Alhaji Adamu Sabon Birni, said all that Abubakar had said about insecurity in their area was truth but that shouldn’t be a reason for one to abandon his faith.

“I lost my father to banditry. Bandits killed him after collecting millions of Naira from us. But that did not make me to renounce my religion. Because banditry is not only in Sokoto, is everywhere in the North and our leaders are doing their best to curtail it.

“But we are happy, he realized his mistake and revery to Islam,” he said

The wives who spoke separately also promised to support their husband to stay in Sokoto and in Islam.
