Insecurity in the country festered because security chiefs are benefiting from the anomaly, some members of the House of Representatives have alleged.
There were spikes in terrorism activities in Kaduna, Niger, Zamfara, Plateau, Benue and part of the South within the last few weeks.
Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase, said security agencies always ignore warnings of an impending attacks as in the case of the Kaduna train incident and the recent killings in Plateau, alleging that some personnel of the military and paramilitary agencies were aiding the operations.
He said he raised a motion over the situation in the Plateau which lawmakers debated and asked security agencies to take urgent action but nothing happened until the terrorists struck few days ago.
“In my own community, we had a soldier who was supposed to be in Zamfara given a pass consecutively for six months. He was arrested (for) giving uniforms to the bandits. Till this moment, he has not been ‘court-martialed’.
“If his station was in Zamfara and he was found in Plateau at the same time, who was giving him the pass and what is their interest in giving a security agent a six-month pass? He queried.
On his part, Fatuhu Mohammed, alleged that insecurity has become a lucrative enterprise for security agencies, adding that in the absence of coup, the anomaly provided leeway for easy money.
“It is business. They know there is no military coup. The only way they can make money is through this. How will they want the security issues to end? I don’t understand what is happening in this country,” he pointed out.
