The lawmaker representing Dala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, has formally resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Madakin Gini, who currently serves as the Deputy Minority Leader of the House, conveyed his decision in a letter dated March 10, 2026. The letter was addressed to the NNPP chairman of Yalwa Ward in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
In the correspondence, the federal lawmaker explained that his decision came after wide consultations with political allies and supporters across Kano State, particularly within the 12 wards that make up the Dala Federal Constituency.
He noted that leaving the party was not an easy choice given his longstanding loyalty to the party and the Kwankwasiyya political movement. However, he said growing internal divisions within the party compelled him to reconsider his position.
According to him, the party has been split into two opposing factions one aligned with the party’s founder, Boniface Aniebonam, and the other loyal to former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Madakin Gini said the existence of parallel leadership structures from ward level to the national leadership made it difficult for the party to function effectively.
“I wish to formally notify you that I have, with immediate effect, withdrawn my membership from the NNPP,” he stated in the letter.
