Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has tackled a Catholic priest, Rev Fr. Father Evaristus Bassey for planning to enforce ‘no PVC, no offering’ in his parish.
Father Bassey, a former Director of Church and Society at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), had tweeted that, ‘’I want to enforce No PVC No Offering in my parish. I want to check something.”
This tweet didn’t go down well with Mr Omokri, who immediately lashed out at him.
Mr Omokri replied the father thus: “But honestly, should we be politicising the Holy Communion? I am not sure the Pope would approve of this. The Catholic Church that I know was apolitical.”
Omokri further stated that there are five conditions for a Catholic to participate in the communion and once it is met, nobody has the right to deny them the partaking of such a sacred rite.
He said such enforcement should not be done as a means of pushing a political agenda because there are other religious organisations in Nigeria who have the capacity to play such a game too.
