The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has commended the United States of America for delisting Nigeria from Religious Freedom Violators (RFV) watchlist.
The group disclosed this in a statement by its national coordinator, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Saturday.
It said the United States under President Joe Biden has “done what is right at the right time” because listing Nigeria in that group last year iwas erroneous and fallacious.
“How do you list a nation with religious freedom entrenched in its Constitution, practising it fully and condemning and acting promptly on any issue of religious denials and parochialism promptly?, the statement said.
It stated that even though Nigeria thickly populated by Muslims, the Vice- President, the SGF and Head of Service of the Federation among others are staunch Christians with equal number of both muslims and christians as ministers in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group said, on the other hand, it was during the regime of President Goodluck Jonathan, that appointments were lopsided in favour of Christians.
The organization also condemned a statement credited to CAN President Rev. Samson Ayokunle querying America for its rightful action of delisting Nigeria from the Group it does not belong; but CAN just wanting Nigeria to be on that list ‘at all costs’. This is highly condemnable.
“CAN should stop misinforming and misleading its followers by equating ISWAP, Boko Haram and bandits attacks with issue of freedom of worship violation; this is mischievous and fallacious! All these charlatans mentioned by Rev. Ayokunle are terrorists who are being jointly condemned by both christians, muslims and few traditional religious believers among us,” the group said.
