Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested nine Muslims for allegedly eating openly during fasting hours on the first day of Ramadan.
The Deputy Commander, Mujahid Aminudeen, announced this, adding that the suspects, seven men and two women were picked up on Wednesday after they were reportedly seen consuming food in public during the daytime.
Aminudeen said the individuals are currently in custody, where officials intend to counsel them on the religious significance of fasting and guide them on proper observance, including prayers and Qur’anic recitation.
“We will educate them on the importance of fasting and how to live as responsible Muslims,” he said.
However, the deputy commandant did not indicate when the detainees would be released. The board usually conducts a routine monitoring of eateries and marketplaces to ensure adherence to fasting obligations.
