Two people have been killed and 1,500 houses destroyed in heavy downpour in Katsina state, the state’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has disclosed.
Spokesperson of the agency, Umar Mohammed, said on Wednesday that the two persons were killed when a building collapsed on them in Bindawa in Bindawa local government, during the heavy rainfall on Monday.
He said the rainfall caused havoc in three local government areas of the state, adding that most main roads were flooded.
Mohammed said 400 houses were destroyed in Bindawa, 800 in Faskari, and 300 in Sabuwa local government area.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that main roads and many areas in Katsina metropolis were also inaccessible throughout the heavy rainfall.
The areas mostly affected within Katsina city include the popular Kofar Kaura roundabout and Layout, Tudun Katsira Layout Road, and the road linking the new CBN Road.
