An early morning downpour has held the Muslim Ummah in Kaduna indoors, preventing them from going to the various Eid grounds in the metropolis to observe the two raka’ats of Eid Adhan that was to take place today.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the rain which started at about 5:15 am made worshippers hurriedly conclude the first early morning prayers (Subhi) and rush to their various homes.
Most mosques had set the Eid prayers between 8am and 8:30 am, however, that was not possible as the rains fell all through the period.
After the prayers, as prescribed by Shariah, various imams and community leaders would slaughter their rams at the Eid grounds before followers would take queues if they return to their various homes, but the rain may have disrupted that thus leaving the Ummah to their devices.
As at the time of filing this report by about 8:50 am, the rain was still falling.
A similar incident happened in Lagos in 2022 when the Muslim Ummah could not observe Eid Adhan prayers.
The Imam of Alausa Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Imam Gafar, who said the downpour was a blessing from the Almighty, added those who missed the Eid prayer should pray theirs at home with their family, adding, however, that they are not permitted to recite the “khutbah” (sermon or command).
“In the case where the rain prevented the whole community from observing the Eid prayers, they are permitted to pray the next day. But if the community Imam led the Eid prayer in the mosque, those who missed it are allowed to pray at home without the sermon,” he said.
The Eid al-Adha (feast of sacrifice) marks the end or culmination of the Hajj or Pilgrimage of Muslims around the world to the Holy City of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia.
It is celebrated every 10th day of the month of Dhul Hajja, the 12th Month of the Hijra Calendar, the Islamic Lunar calendar.
The Eid al-Adha is one of the two (great) feasts or festivals of Islam, the other one being the Eid al-Fitr. It is celebrated by Muslims around the world and is a recognised holiday by non-Muslim states.
