Recent developments in the Hausa filmmaking industry popularly known as Kannywood has shown that the industry is indeed doing well not only in the sub-saharan region but also at global level. What was thought to be impossible has been made possible as famous and controversial actress Rahama Sadau announced that her film ‘Mamah will be screened at the prestigious Red Sea International Film Festival held in Saudi Arabia.
Film’s analysts are of the view that this development indicates a milestone achievement so far attained in the history of Kannywood as the development indicates that this is the first time a Hausa-language movie will be showcased at the globally recognized event.
It was however, gathered that the movie was screened on the 9th December 2024, at Cinema 4, Red Sea Culture Square, Jeddah,
Following the development, the actress Rahama shared her excitement on social media, saying: “Thrilled to announce that our film Mamah will be screened at the Red Sea International Film Festival! This is one great achievement as it marks the first Hausa movie to be showcased at this prestigious international festival. A proud moment for us as producers, actors, and a huge leap forward for Kannywood, ” she posted.
The film was co-produced by Rahama and Abdul Amart Mai Kwachewa, and was directed by Toka McBaror. The fim featured artist like Adam A. Zango, Nafeesat Abdullahi, Rahama Sadau among others.
