Paris Saint-Germain have defended their Champions League crown by beating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Kai Havertz opened the scoring early on, only for Ousmane Dembele to hit back from the spot in the second half.
The game headed to penalties and PSG prevailed after both Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes missed from the spot, the latter blasting his effort high over the bar to hand the French champions their second successive European title.
No hanging around from the Arsenal squad as they collect their runners-up medals.
Their job here is done , bar the residual respect of seeing Paris Saint-Germain lift the European Cup — of that is what you want to call it.
Desire Doue was one of the four PSG players who stayed cool to score his penalty and he, along with many of his team-mates, is now a two-time champion of Europe.
He spoke after the full time.
“We are so, so proud tonight. So grateful and so happy. It was a tough game against a very good team. We have to congratulate them because they had a really good season, but now we have to join as a team and a a family because we deserve it.
“Look at the crowd, our family, we just want to say thank you. I thank my lord and saviour Jesus Christ tonight because I prayed to win the Champions League again — and we did it.”
He was then asked how he felt standing over his penalty:
“It’s part of my job. I try to stay calm every time I take a penalty. Tonight I scored so it’s amazing!”
