The protests against the current hardship in the country have spread to Sokoto state on Monday.
Women and youths took part in the protests, complaining that their husbands could no longer provide for them.
They carried placards with different inscriptions such as: “We are tired of excuses;” “We need food,” among others.
One of the protesters, Safiya Sa’idu told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that they were not out to harass or cause any trouble but to demand for palliatives to alleviate their suffering.
“The measure of local rice is now N3,800 and garri is N1,500. This is unacceptable.
“People are dying of hunger. You hardly find a household that eats three times a day.
“We want to marry our daughters but things are costly now. The government should consider our plight and do something urgently,” she said.
Sokoto’s is the latest of such protests that took place in Niger, Kano, Lagos, Osun and Oyo States. The protests began last week.
