Angry youth in Danmusa local government area of Katsina State have barricaded Katsina-Funtua highway over rising cases of banditry in the area.
The youth barricaded the road with stones, logs of wood and old tyres at about 5:30 in the morning, disrupting vehicular movement, and forcing travellers going to Funtua, Kaduna, Abuja, Sokoto and Gusau to take an alternative route.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the protest followed the recent bandit attack in Amarawa, Matazu, and Musawa, which led to the death of eight people. Many people were also injured during the attacks.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, Gambo Isah, said security operatives were on top of the situation.
“We woke up this morning with a report of a protest by some youths in the Yantumaki area because of a bandit attack at Amarawa village where two villagers were killed by the hoodlums,” he said.
