The Federal Government is planning to spend N400million on its proposed national carrier, Nigerian Air, in 2022.
The proposed airline has been in the works in the last six years, drawing criticisms from many stakeholders.
The amount was captured as a “working capital” in the proposed 2022 budget presented to the joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Despite various assurances by Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, the national carrier is yet to begin operations since its conceptualization in 2015.
The Federal Ministry of Aviation, in the proposed budget, earmarked N400million as working capital for the national carrier, which it described as an ongoing project.
Earlier this year, Sirika tweeted that discussions for the project was held at the United States Embassy in Abuja.
The airline’s branding was unveiled in July 2018 by the Federal Government, assuring and that the national carrier would be inaugurated at the end of that year.
Sirika unveiled the carrier at a press conference during the Farnborough Air Show in London in 2018.
