Propcom plus, a Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). climate-resilient and agricultural market development programme aimed at supporting economic growth for smallholders and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in conflict and climate-affected regions in Nigeria, has revealed that no fewer than four million and one hundred THOUSAND smallholders and SMEs are targeted towards agricultural market development programme through supporting climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural practices.
This was disclosed by Propcom plus Political Director/Country Representative during the Propcom Plus Learning event tagged Learning and Adapting for Greater Impact held in Kano. According to her the programme is an eight-year starting from 2023 to2030 is aimed at increasing the incomes and climate resilience of millions poor and vulnerable people in Nigeria, and that 50% of whom will be women.
She explained that the programme also aimed at transforming Nigeria’s rural economy by addressing environmental, social, and economic challenges in the country’s food and land-use system.
Similarly, in his opening remark Propcom Strategy Director Mr Olumide Ojo stated that the programme is set to achieve an increasing productivity, improving nutrition and food security, enhancing climate resilience through pursuance of lower emissions, and protection as well as restoring nature. He added that the programme also will assist in tackling some of Nigeria’s underlying drivers of conflict and insecurity.
In his address Kano state Commissioner for Agriculture Dr Danjuma Mahmoud stated that Kano state government is ever ready to complement efforts of the state partners in developing SMEs in the state. According to him, the Kano state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will surely leverage on the opportunities provided by the programme to ensure women development in the state.
