Two notorious inmates who were being escorted back to jail in the south-western Ethiopian town of Alaba sprayed chili powder in the eyes of the guards, causing them to flee, according to authorities,
They were two of the four people that attempted to flee.
“Of the four detainees who fled, one was dead, another was hurt, and two are still at large,” Southern Nations regional state police deputy commander Taju Negash told newsmen.
It is unknown from whence the prisoners obtained the chili.
The deceased prisoner was facing a different accusation for allegedly hurling a grenade at police officers while incarcerated.
The chilli powder attack, according to the police, did not damage any of its members.
Ethiopian food includes red pepper, and Alaba is renowned for cultivating it.
The officials claimed that the fugitive inmates are dangerous and that they intend to make their mugshots public so that members of the public can help with the hunt.
