The price of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) commonly called cooking gas has hit N10,500 in some cities in the country.
This is even as higher prices are to be expected as marketers decry scarcity of the commodity.
Checks by this newspaper show that in Ilorin, residents are buying a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas for N10,500.
In Lagos and Abuja, price ranges from N9,500 to N11,800.
A resident of Abuja, Grace Joseph, decried that there had been a nearly 300 per cent increase in the cost of gas, which is an essential commodity, since President Muhammadu Buhari was elected in 2015 and he seemed not to be bothered.
“When he was elected, the price of 1kg of cooking gas was around N280. It has gone as high as N950 in some place and no one seems to be doing anything about it,” she said.
As residents continue to groan under high prices, a marketer of the product, Austin Olu said the price may go higher because demand is higher than available product on ground.
He attributed the scarcity to delay in landing of vessels, caused partly by rationing of gas vessels in the country.
