A wave of shock and fear swept through Sheka Sabuwar Gandu in Kano Municipal Local Government Area on Saturday night after a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son were allegedly brutally killed by unknown attackers.
The grim discovery was made around 8:00 p.m. when the woman’s husband returned from work to find their residence locked. Neighbours said he made inquiries in the area before forcing the door open, only to find the lifeless bodies of his wife and child inside the house and the assailants tried to set the house ablaze.
Following the discovery, residents promptly alerted the authorities, drawing community members to the scene as panic spread through the neighbourhood. It was gathered that the assailants tried to set the house ablaze after they have locked all the rooms in the victims house, but the fire didn’t do much damages.
Confirming the incident, the community head, Ahmad Sani, described the killings as devastating and unprecedented in the area. He said residents were deeply disturbed by the development and lamented the absence of effective security in the community. He noted that although a police outpost had been constructed in Sheka Sabuwar Gandu, it was yet to be manned by security personnel, leaving residents vulnerable.
“This is a calm and peaceful community. We have never witnessed anything like this before. The lack of security presence is a serious concern for all of us,” he said.
He appealed to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to urgently deploy officers to the area and enhance security measures to forestall further attacks.
When contacted for comment, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, declined to comment further insisting that investigations were ongoing.
