Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has charged Christians and their leadership to focus more on preaching peace, love and justice.
Buni said this in a Christmas message by his media aide, Mamman Mohammed, on Thursday in Damaturu.
According to him, there can be no meaningful development without peace and justice on the land.
“We should spread the message of love because we are all created and loved by God.
“All the scriptures preached and promoted peace, we should therefore be our brothers keepers,” he said.
The governor, who earlier hosted officials of the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), enjoined them to use the yulitide and pray to God to sustain the massive improvement in the security of the state.
“People now move freely pursuing their legitimate businesses. This calls for celebration and to appreciate God for making the state more secured and peaceful.
“Use the occasion to pray for more peace, security and prosperity of the state and country,” he said.
Prof. John Onyema, who led the delegation, commended Buni for giving a sense of belonging to Christians and all Nigerians resident in the state.
He said the governor demonstrated true leadership qualities and supported everyone in the state without recourse to religion and ethnic backgrounds.
Onyema lauded Buni for the developmental strides in providing services and projects being enjoyed by everyone in the state.
“As the 2025 new year sets in, we urge you to continue doing the good works for the benefit of all,” he said.
Highlights of the occasion included presentation of an award of excellence to the governor by the group in appreciation of his support for the North East Unity Carol.
