Some soldiers have invaded the head office of the Kaduna Electric in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state capital.
Our reporter learnt that the soldiers invaded the office on Friday after their barrack was disconnected from the national grid.
The soldiers were said to have beaten the staff of the company who were on duty at the time as a result of which some of them sustained mild injuries.
Some residents were seen in a video clip which went viral on social media jubilating and hailing the soldiers who were zooming out of the headquarters in military vans.
In another video clip, some of the staff were seen running out of the power company headquarters during the invasion.
A resident of the area, Malam Muhammad, told our reporter that the people of the state were aggrieved by the epileptic power supply in the state.
“We are not getting enough supply since the fasting period.
“We really suffered during the fasting period because even to get a cold water was very difficult because the light was not stable.
“And this is not reflecting on our monthly bills. The bills are supposed to be far less that what we have been paying because the supply had dropped by almost 70 percent but they keep on bringing the same amount,” he said
Kaduna electric condemns attack
The Kaduna Electric has condemned the attack on its staff by the military on Saturday.
A statement signed by its Head, Corporate Communication , Abdulazeez Abdullahi said the military had never lodged any complaint regarding its services or any perceived grievances it might have had with the company before attacking its staff.
“In fact, several attempts by our management team in Kebbi State requesting meetings with the army, where issues of interest were to be discussed were rebuffed.
“The armed soldiers invaded our premises Saturday afternoon and unleashed mayhem on unsuspecting staff and customers.
“The helpless victims were beaten and subjected to humiliating treatment by the marauding soldiers for no reasons.
Such brazen act of impunity has no place in the civilised society we live in.
‘We wish to make clear that Kaduna Electric cannot guarantee its services in an unsafe environment. The safety and well being of our staff is a priority.
“We do not tolerate such intimidation and molestation of our staff and shall act appropriately within the law to seek redress”, KAEDCO said.
